About me
I'm an intern from Finland, staying in FabLab for 10 weeks. I´m studying to become a clothes artisan at Raseko vocational college at Raisio, Finland. My hobbies include arts (mostly drawing or doodling), bicycling, playing the alto and singing. I am passionate about nature and love birds, especially corvids.

I was thinking about printing on tulle, then about just printing tulle, but while thinking about weaves and structures of fabric, I remembered that knit fabric has at it's basics a very simple structure that could may be used in making elastic, bendable surfaces with 3D printing.
I started by drawing some test loops by hand, tracing them to vector by inkscape and extruding the sketch into a 3D object in Fusion360. I printed a couple of the strings and tried to assemble them to form the knit, and while it kind of worked and bended in a nice way, the structure didn't lay very flat.
I wanted to make some better loops for further tests, so I sketched a line of loops in Fusion360 and continued my tests.

The loops are really quick to print, around two minutes each, but assembling them takes some time and patience, at least for me. To make the result bend in every direction, every second row of loops has to be knit and every other purled, else the knit side only bends concave ant the purled side convex.
FabAcademy
The Fab Academy is a 5 month part-time course held at the same time in many Fab Lab around the world, starting each year in January. The program provides advanced instruction about rapid prototyping. Learning how to design, develop and build with digital fabrication techniques and electronica. Weekly classes are directed online in English, by Neil Gershenfeld (of MIT’s Center For Bits and Atoms) and supported by instructor in the local Fab Lab.

The Fab Academy is a fast paced. A hands-on learning experience where you plan and execute a new project each week. Each individual documents their progress of each project, resulting in a personal portfolio of technical accomplishments. Progress towards the diploma is evaluated by the student’s acquired skills rather than time or credits.
