Bjartur Týr

FabLab 103


My name is Bjartur Týr Ólafsson, I am born 1993 and I come from Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland. My hobbies are playing guitar, watching movies, Fab Lab (of curse) and climbing mountains.

I used Inckscape, wrote my name and created a sticker. Now the sticker is on my laptop. You can find the picture under the picure of me. 

Christmas Tree

My next project was learning to use the Epiloc laser. I made two object. At first I made a chain, which was an easy project to learn to use the laser. My next project was building a christmas tree using press fit. On the picture, below the tree, you can see the individual pices that make the christmas tree. It turned out extremely pretty.

Puffin tie

On 14. april 2011 we helt a Puffin day in Vestmannaeyjar. We where supose to make a puffin souvenir. I desited to make a puffin tie, you can find picure of the tie belowe. I used inkcscape in this project. I took five picures of puffins and used the tool trace bitmark in inkscape to get the outlines from the puffins. Then I took used the Epiloc laser and I printed the picures on special films. The laser made litle holes in the films and made the puffins. After that i stretched the films over my white tie and carefully stroke dress ink over it. The ink ran in the holes and printed the puffins in the tie. I used a little bit to much ink and it got a little messy. I don't afford another tie so if you have money donate now!

Guitar holder

For my final project I decided to use all I've learn in press fit and make a guitar holder. I designed the stand in inkscape. Picures are below.

FabLab 203

The summer is over and I'm back (like Arnold Schwarzenegger) and ready for more fun with Frosti.



My first project this semester was learning how to use Pico Cricket. Pico Cricket is a tiny computer that can light up, spin things and play music. The computer has four ports to connect the sensors to. At first I learned how to turn on the light with different functions. I tried an on and off swich, light sensor and noise sensor. After alot of experiments whit all kind of light, sound and motors. I made up the perfect christmas gift for all nerds in the world. In one of the ports I put a red light. In the second port I put light sensor to turn of the motor which was in the third port. In the last hole I put an on and off swich to turn on the motor. On the motor I put christmas decoration and little bells to make a sound. On top of that I used the Pico Cricket program and I played the famous christmas song Jingle Bells on piano. Next thing we learned to do was to programming an arduino. We programmed it to do all kind of things from the book Getting started with Arduino. At first our project was to let it turn on a light when a button was pressed. It worked out well and we turned it on and off a lot of times. When we had figure out the light system we desided to make sound. We got an Fluxamasynth Shield and it helped us to play midi sounds from our computer speaker. After we got everyone at the laboratory mad because of our horrible sounds, we desided to use our music talents and do something that people would listen to. We found a great great soundboard on the internet that helped us to program drum beats. On top of the Fluxamasynth Shield we put an Midi Shield so we could changes our beat. The shield has three buttons on it and two variable resistance. We programmed one of the resistance to change the beat of the drum. We defined five drum sounds, bassdrum, snare, hihat open, hihat close and hihat pedal. We set up an table and we defined how hard the "drummer" would hit the "drum" by numbers. This is the table:

We are thinking about making big pino so everyone can play. We are also thinking about adding an button so people can listen to old Þjóðhátíðar music.

FabLab 303

This semester I started in Fab Lab 303, with Matti. I was a part of Fab Lab Bootcamp in January and Me, Frosti, and three other people from Iceland made a 3D-scanner. In that project I learned a lot and I was very happy with the week. In the classroom I worked a lot with programming. I made a Fabisp and Fab LED light from our Modella Milling machine.

Input and Output

In programming I made a input and output devises. In output I made LED array and in input I made a hello mic. This is the best instructions for input, and this for output

Light sensor

I made a Fabisp and light sensor and I wanted to make it work. I followed instructions from Mercedes Mane.

I made LED array board and I got it to make all kind of light stuff.

Puffin head

In Fab Lab 103 one of our friend, Arnar Baldvinson, spent most part of the semester trying to make a 3D model of a puffin head, witch he made in Blender. Arnar got frustrated very quickly and gave up his project. Now a year later me and Matti decided to finish this puffin head because Arnar have been complaining about Fab Lab for a year now and all he says about Fab Lab has been bad. We split the 3D model in four pieces and cut it out in the Shopbot machine. That project didn't take long time and we have been mocking Arnar since he got the puffin.

3D scan

After the Bootcamp I was very fascinated with 3D scanning. After couple of small project where I scanned somethings like a statue of Venus, the Greek god. I decided to do something big, I laser scanned my face. I had to be very still so the scanning would work. I scanned my face and puzzled it together in the computer. After that I opened it in Blender and fixed some little details. My idea is to make a body for my head in Google SketchUp and then to cut it out in some good material so I can own an action figure of my self.
