Attending FabLab Boot Camp at Lorain County Community College January 11-14, 2011.


Projects completed:

  • Notebook: Designed in Cut Studio and cut on vinyl cutter.
  • Name sign: Designed in CorelDraw and laser cut from two colors of sheet foam.
  • Name badge: Designed in CorelDraw and laser engraved on plastic.
  • Tee shirt: Stencil designed in CorelDraw and cut on vinyl cutter, then shirt painted with stencil paint.
  • Tic-Tac-Toe game: Formed from plastic on Shop Bot.
  • Sign board: Designed in Part Works and cut from wood on Shop Bot.
  • LED blinker: Learned soldering techniques while building a simple circuit.
  • Music box: Designed in Corel Draw and cut on laser. Original hexagonal design with press fit construction. Removable lid is 4 layers of black plastic superglued together. Sides and interior shelf made from white plastic. Bottom is open to insert battery and circuitry for sound. Red corner pieces are going to be replaced with red acrylic rods eventually.

  • Sound board for music box: Learned surface mount soldering techniques.
  • Created this FabWiki page.


Other accomplishments:

  • Observed demonstrations of equipment not in our FabLab (yet) - Modella desktop mill and Makerbot.
  • Exchanged tips and ideas with other Boot Campers and with the FabLab staff at LCCC.
  • Learned maintenance and cleaning procedures for the Epilog laser.
  • Got ideas for several projects that can be used for our elementary and middle school FabLab classes.
