Computer-controlled machining - Assignment

1. A rendered image of the model made in Blender - 2. The parts drawn up in Inkscape - 3. The Shopbot doing its thing - 4. The assempled product

Assignment: To create something big with the Shopbot.

I decided to make something that I needed and was practical for me. So I decided on making some speaker stands for my Home Recording studio. But further more I decided it was to double as a CD rack.

For my first step I decided to first make a 3d model which I made in blender ( pic 1 ). I found this very useful cause working on the 3d model awoke allot of questions and issues on the construction. Like where holes need to be and how to fit things together and what parts where needed

Next I drew up all the parts in Inkscape in the there right sizes and shapes and sorted them out after the material size ( pic 2 ). Then saved it as a .pdf file.

And then opened it up in Partworks. In part works I then set each line to the appropriate tool bit and depth. Also I set the order of which I wanted things to be cut out because I want the Shopbot to end on cutting the outlines to avoid any unwanted movement of the material. From Partworks I then exported the toolpath and went on to the Shopbot where I "printed" it out ( pic 3 ).

And after a few minutes of sanding and fitting and some glue my first "speaker stand / cd rack" was constructed ( pic 4 ). And now I just have to make another one and paint them, I´ll but in a photo of the finished product when I'm done.

Assignment 2.1 - proposal for a final project

I decided to change my final project because I am also a musician I really wanted to do something music related. And this is what I came up with.

Musicvision

A light structure controlled by tones. A different light color for each note/frequency ( A-B-C-D-E-F-G) and the strenght of the light is controlled by the pitch. The aim is to make live music more visual and ejoyable for the hear impaired.

Assignment week 2 - The Mobile Doorman

The Mobile Doorman

The idea is to have a mobile doorbell at your door wich contacs you via videocall on your mobile when your not at home. But works as a normal doorbell when at home. It also provides further development ideas in the future and I see it happening in few stages.

Stage 1: Mobile doorbell with just audio back and forth.

Stage 2: Videocall doorbell with audio and video back and forth.

Stage 3: Videocall doorbell plus front door surveillance system.

Other thougts: - You could "buzz" someone in via your mobile. - A text message on your mobile when you get mail throug the mail slot

Assignment 1 - a Self-reproducing machine

The Triapus megaworker
Assignment week 1 - The Triapus

A three armed robot on six spherewheels that works on top of the material within a predefined area. Each arm has three joints and on the end a changeable tool. The top part of each joint can rotate 360° and the each rod can flex 180°. One arm is the grip arm the "hand" and can cutout, weld and put together the piece your buildin. 100% self-reproducing machine The robot is controlled via a computer with a wireless connection and works on a battery.
