I found a QR-code generator in Inkscape and wondered if it would work if engraved on MDF.
I made a QR-code for www.fablabs.is
I tried it first with the standard settings for MDF but the resulting contrast is simply too low for the app to recognize it.
I did some experimenting and ended up engraving with settings that are actually quite messy but once you sand the burnmarks away the contrast is enough to work for the QR-app.
Excuse me for having the actual settings written up on a note that has mysteriously vanished in the midst of chaos in the Lab. Will add them later if I redo the experiment.
Just one more note though. Maybe QR-code is a dying format, but I like the idea of actually embedding this tech into product packaging to include manuals, material tracing, freebies or whatever. I just think it might be a fun way to add a little bit of extra to a product.
