Laser cutting

Wood bracelet

Such as laser cutting machine takes into account vector to cut. Moreover it's passsible to raster the support. In the FabLab Reykjavik the machin used is an Epilog Laser Mini. It's the same process as the vinyl cutting to edit a project using inkscape software.

Editing a project

  1. Open Inkscape and draw what you want. You can also import a picture frome your computer and converte it into vectors or draw above it.
  2. Your drawing done, clik on edit fill and stroke.

Cut

If you want tu cut in order to separte your draw from the suport, you do not have fill by cliking on the cross.
You do have a stroke that must me full red (255,0,0)
Change the thikness of the stroke to 0,02mm. The machine takes into account these settings only. Thaht why it's very important to check if they are ok.

Raster

Dragon rastering
If you want tu do some raster in order to engrave a picture for exemple, you must have fill by cliking on the FULL button.
You do have a fill that must me full black (0,0,0)
Turn off the strock by clicink on the cross. The machine takes into account these settings only. Thaht why it's very important to check if they are ok.

Then ou can change the propertie documents in order to fit the page to the objects you've drawn just befor with a small margine Exporte to PDF file with the resolution you want and the extra-space settings you want.

Advanced settings

Color mapping

If your project is quite complex and you have more colors than red strokes and black fill you can use the color mapping. for that you must:

  1. Clic on the color mapping in the printing settings window.
  2. Define the same colors as you have in your pdf file with exactely the sames numbers for Red Green and Blue.
  3. Define if you want to cut or raster for the color you are defining.
  4. Define the power, the speed and the frequency you want.

Note that if you don't use advanced settings as color mapping, the machine will automaticly transforme your colors in grey nuancies. The resolution is important for a good quality but it can take time and infuing on the final result like. For exemple instead of using a 600dpi that woul take time and stay rastering and burn more and more, you can also use 300 dpi twice that would gave you a better final render for exemple (bellow). Anyway, it's empirical knowledges that you can discover yourself! Here you can see differents settings on the same file for exemple.
