Testing the 3D printer

It was time to start learning about the 3D printing and we thought it would be fun to make 3D selfies. Only 3D experience I have had so far was about trying out a program called Tinkercad and trying to get the hang of it first. I think I need a lot more practise with the actual design part and then maybe try out some more things with the printer.

First I took photos around my face and used a program called ReconstructMe to make a 3D scan out of me. The scan wasn´t exactly perfect but it was good enough to be printed. After that you take the file to MakerBot to print the design. MakerBot also gives you an estimate of how long it takes to print the design. The filament we used was PLA. The selfie design didn´t need any raft or support and we set the quality low because it was just a test piece.

With the 3D printer it´s always good to check that the printer is working correctly for the first 3-4 layers.
