Engraving rocks

I found some beautiful flat and smooth rocks from beaches of Reykjavik and Reynisfjara black beach and I thought it would be nice to try some engraving on them. I first checked the fabwiki pages to see if someone had done some testing with rocks and found out that marble settings were good to start with. I googled the settings and found a page with some standard settings for 35W lasercutter so I decided to try their settings first. For some of the lighter rocks one engraving was good but some of them needed more adjustment with the settings.

The standard settings were speed 75, power 80, DPI 600.

I also tested the same picture for little pieces for wood. Settings were speed 60, power 100, DPI 400. The one on the left was so uneven that it was hard to get the picture visible. I did put some cardboard under the wood to make the surface more straigt but it didn´t quite work out :)
